Friends of the Zimbabwe Academy of Music
The Friends of the Zimbabwe Academy of Music (FZAM) raises funds internationally to support the Academy and to help keep its profile high within the global music and arts
community.
Our History
The British Friends of the Zimbabwe Academy of Music was established in 2011 by a dedicated group of supporters in the UK. This small but committed group successfully supported the Academy through an initial three-year fundraising drive, which grew to
include a bursary fund covering the fees of ten students, mainly from under-served communities, as well as a weekly Saturday School programme for children from fifteen junior schools. This project ran for three years and was supported by the British Council.
In 2022, a new group of trustees adopted our current name to reflect our worldwide support and ambitions.
Our Work Today
Since adopting our current name, we have continued our fundraising efforts and organised a showcase concert in London featuring Academy-graduate cellist Emma Price, our patrons Dame Felicity Lott and Leslie Howard, and guest performers The Fidelio Trio. Over
the last three years a series of grants has been made to the Academy to support much-needed equipment purchases and improvements.
We are now working closely with the Academy to support the student bursary scheme, which part-funds promising students so they can benefit from the outstanding tuition and performance opportunities available in Bulawayo.
Why Support Us
By supporting the Friends of the Zimbabwe Academy of Music, you are helping talented young musicians—many from under-served communities—access high-quality music education and performance opportunities. Your support also helps sustain a vibrant cultural institution that plays a vital role in the musical life of Bulawayo and beyond.

If you would like to donate from funds not denominated in British Pounds Sterling, please email the Friends on contact@fzam.org so that we can advise on the most cost-efficient way of doing this.
