Khumbulani Jazz Festival

The Khumbulani Jazz Festival is an annual music event held at the Zimbabwe Academy of Music, Bulawayo on 30 April to celebrate UNESCO International Jazz Day, a global initiative recognising jazz as a powerful tool for cultural dialogue and creativity.

Founded by internationally experienced jazz pianist and educator Sifiso “Tich” Makalisa, the festival brings together established regional artists, Zimbabwean musicians, and emerging talent in a vibrant celebration of jazz and contemporary African sounds.

More than just a concert, the festival creates a space where music lovers, artists, creatives, and local businesses come together to experience live music, culture, and community. By showcasing both established and upcoming performers, the festival supports the growth of Zimbabwe’s creative industries while strengthening Bulawayo’s reputation as the country’s cultural capital.

As the festival grows each year, Khumbulani Jazz Festival aims to become a key cultural event on Zimbabwe’s calendar and an important part of the global celebration of International Jazz Day.
